through its writers and poets
Literature is as much a
part of Italian identity as is its history, art and traditions. Many Italian
writers found their inspiration in the extraordinary landscapes of Italy from
the rolling green slopes of the Euganean Hills to the steep mountains of the
Abruzzi to the bright and ancient villages of the South. In return they
have given the places an added value which overcome their natural beauty.

country together. It offers a unique opportunity to get “off the beaten path”,
inviting the visitor to explore the physical settings that inspired some great
Italian literary works but also the people, culture and traditions of those
The event is organized by the Italian Embassy. Presentations in English will be
held by the Italian Ambassador Giorgio Novello, Counsellor Tommaso Andria and
Commercial Attaché Giacomo Cosmi. A case of a truly Norwegian literary
landscape - the city of Røros and its writer Johan Falkberget - will also be
presented. Mr. Sergio Scapin will open the event by introducing, as president
of the Oslo committee, the Dante Alighieri society, which has initiated the
literary landscapes project. Excerpts in Norwegian translation from
books by writers referred to in the presentations will be read. At
the end, Q&A will follow.
